Answer to Trash to Treasures

I had a few people ask me what I used to make my prim soap bottles. I used Acrylic Gesso. I guess you would of never thought of that....lol
First thing I did was to make sure to get the labels off. I soaked them in hot soapy water. Them I used Goo Gone to make sure all the adhesive from the labels is off. Then wash them again with hot soapy water. I used 2 thin coats of Gesso to primer the plastic bottles. Let them dry in between coat. I cheat and use the hairdryer to speed things up. I have no patience. If you don't like how they look after drying. You can lightly sand it to your preference. I never do. Just gives it more of a primitive look. Then paint it as you like. I painted and stenciled mine. Then after they dried I wiped them down with some black glaze. You can even use stain  instead of using a glaze.. After they are good and dry. I seal them with an exterior/interior varnish.
There are so many thing you can use Gesso on. I have used it on metal, glass, and plastic so far. Just make sure to seal them real good before you use them. It can be used for interior and exterior use.
I'm going to try some plastic eggs next. I'll make sure to post a picture when I get them done.
Just imagine all the things you can make over and recycle. This is a very frugal project. All I can say  "Is just let your imagination run wild!"
Thanks for stopping by......Patti

Here is a strainer I also did using gesso. I'm going place some flower pots and spanish moss in it this spring and summer on the deck.
